One advantage to using the Helm Control Panel is the integration of a backup utility, which makes saving all of your web site’s data into one single file a simple process.
Once logged into the Helm Control Panel, click the link on the main page which says Domains.
Click the domain you would like to backup. For the purposes of this article, we will use the test-domain.com domain.
Once inside the Edit Domains window, click the icon for Website Backup.
As you can see, this domain currently does not have any backup sets. Click the button which says Create New in the upper left-hand corner of the window.
Enter a name for the backup set. The name may only contain alpha-numeric characters. For the purposes of this article, we will give it today’s date. Next to the Backup this directory (and subdirectories) heading, you can select a specific directory to include in the backup set by clicking on the folder icon next to the field. By default, it will back up all files within the domain's main top level directory. Once the options are set, click the Create New button in the bottom right-hand corner of the window.
The backup set has been successfully created. The physical ‘.zip’ file will be placed in the directory ‘\test-domain.com\Backup’. You can now restore your entire site as it was on the day the backup was created as long as the backup file is in place. Now, we will run through a Restore.
Click the button which says Restore on the right-hand side of the backup set.
Here, you can select the options for the restore, such as restoring the site to a separate directory. To restore it back to it’s original directory, simply leave all settings on this window as-is, and click the button which says Restore.
You should now receive a message confirming that the backup set was restored successfully.
