Setting up iPhone for email

Using an iPhone with Your Email

You can always use Web-Based Email to send and receive email messages. But you also can view your email with an email client. To access your email through an iPhone®, add an account with the settings outlined below. This article's screenshots use iPhone firmware 3.1.2, but previous versions use the same settings.


NOTE: iPod Touch users may also use these settings, but must connect via Wi-Fi to send and receive email.

Before You Start:

You need the names of your incoming and outgoing servers to set up email with a client.  Below are examples

  1. Incoming Server:  mail.yourdomain.com Outgoing Server:  smtp.yourdomain.com * replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name
  2. Continue with the procedures outlined below to set up your email client.

To Use an iPhone with Your Email






  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. On the Settings screen, tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Tap Add Account....
  4. Tap Other.
  5. Tap Add Mail Account.
  6. Complete the following fields, and then tap, Save.
    Name
    The name to display on your email.
    Address
    Your email address.
    Password
    Your email account password.
    Description
    A description of the email address to display in the email account list on your iPhone.
  7. Tap POP.

    NOTE: Some users should use IMAP (Smartermail).  If you have trouble with POP please select the IMAP option.  To use IMAP, your email account with us must support IMAP functionality.

  8. Enter your Incoming Mail Server information:
    Host Name
    mail.yourdomain.com
    User Name
    Your full email address.
    Password
    Your email account password.
  9. Enter your Outgoing Mail Server information:
    Host Name
    smtp.yourdomain.com
    * SMTP Authentication is required.  If you have trouble sending messages please refer to our tutorial regarding this topic:  SMTP Relay Errors
    User Name
    Your full email address.
    Password
    Your email account password.
  10. Tap Save.
